The platform caps most of the damage an extension can do. What is left is network calls, stacked extensions and rules built in the wrong layer.
Checkout is now three narrow, well-documented surfaces instead of a template you could edit. Knowing which of the three a request falls into answers most of the scoping.
The Edition is the announcement. The changelog and the API version schedule are the documents that actually bind you, and only one of the three has a deadline in it.
The discount system reduces prices. It does not put things in carts. Once you know which half of the problem you are solving, the build stops being a fight.
